Highland Lakes, an Active 55+ Community

Highland Lakes is an active 55+ community with the advantage of having 27 holes of golf for residents to enjoy. The three par three golf courses provide lots of opportunity for competition, and camaraderie. There is a whole lot more than just golf, too!

Aside from the obvious draw of a golf course, this community has something for everyone. There are 2,456 homes, including single family, attached villas, duplexes, and condos. The community was built between 1976 and 1989. There are two clubhouses so there is an almost country-club like atmosphere. The main clubhouse has a heated pool for the winter, and there are plenty of events like water aerobics, synchronized swimming, karaoke, tennis, shuffleboard, pickleboard, clubs for people from various states so there is immediate commonality, and so much more.

Then there is the Lake Tarpon Lodge, with its own pool, picnic tables, boat dock for the pontoon boat that cruises the lake, grills, and a spectacular view of Lake Tarpon. You can have a private party at the Lodge with scenic Lake Tarpon as your backdrop.

There is a secure boat/trailer/RV storage area for a one-time and refundable fee of only $25 for residents. In addition to these activities there are also pontoon boat tours of Lake Tarpon, and a stop at the Tarpon Turtle for lunch for residents and their guests. While on the lake, there is a pretty good chance you will see osprey or even a bald eagle.

The clubhouse library has plenty of books available for your reading enjoyment. Or simply get together with friends for a friendly game of cards, dominoes, or scrabble. There are weekly viewings of recent movies in the clubhouse and this is free.

If you decide you simply want to stay home and enjoy the quiet of the area, do that too. All the activities are available for the monthly HOA fee of $94. What a deal!!
